Appealing to Muslim communities

I recently had an e-mail interview with Amir Butler, the executive director of the Australian Muslim Public Affairs Committee (AMPAC), about LDP policies and issues of importance to the Australian Muslim community. I was interested and excited to hear Amir’s opinion that the Muslim community could be quite receptive to a libertarian message.

Amir has now posted our interview on his blog “Austrolabe” — including issues such as free speech, education reform, immigration, the Iraq war and multiculturalism.

Interesting Amir didn’t ask about tax, welfare, abortion, drugs, guns, foreign aid, equal opportunity laws, religeous vilificatoon etc. As if these are minor issues for the LDP.

  2. John Humphreys Says:

Why should Amir concentrate on our key issues? It makes sense for him to ask about the issues that concern the Muslim community, and that’s what he did.

And he did ask about religous vilification laws indirectly through the freedom of speech question.

Most of the issues you raised are not central issues of our campaign. Our campaign is about “low tax” and “your choice, not the government’s”. All sensible people should be happy that these ideas are getting a favourable run among some Muslims.

  3. Daniel Farmilo Says:

I have always thought that the LDP has a lot to offer to all religious groups, and I’m very impressed to see this glowing endorsement of sorts from Amir.

You presented our position well John. Good work.

john you are right. I should have said “as if these are minor issues for the Muslim community”.
