**Individual choice**

The LDP believes in individual freedom. Other political parties want to control your decisions on smoking, drinking, gambling, risk taking, recreations, shopping decisions and sexual decisions. We say it’s your choice, not the government’s.

Victimless crimes

Victimless crimes may involve doing something stupid or something against popular opinion, but the LDP does not believe such acts should necessarily be considered criminal.

For more information see our policy on victimless crimes, which calls for the re-legalisation of marijuana, the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia and defending a woman’s right to choose.

Lifesytle choices

For more details see our lifestyle policy, in which we call for marriage to be viewed the same whether it involves people of the same or opposite gender.

Equality & responsibility

The LDP believes people should be responsible for their own decisions and the government should treat all Australian’s equally. For more details, see our policy on freedom & responsibility.

Property rights

Centre to the idea of individual rights is that a person should be free to do what they like with what they own. The LDP strongly supports private property rights and an individual’s right to control that property. For more details see our property rights policy.

Smokers rights

All other parties agree that smokers are an easy political target. Only the LDP will stand up for unfashionable minorities such as smokers. For more details, see our smoking policy.

Shooters rights

One of the most controversial individual rights in Australia is the right of free and law-abiding citizens to pursue the sport of shooting or to own a gun for self-defence. For more details, see our firearms policy.
