This website is the blog for the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to allow for more direct interaction with the Australian blogosphere and the general public. Please read our comments policy.
The LDP is Australia’s only registered party that believes in small government, individual liberty and free markets. The party was started by John Humphreys in 2001 and registered later that year in the ACT (despite objections by both the Liberals and Democrats). The party has stood candidates in three ACT elections.
In 2005, John Humphreys stood down as President and Registered Officer and was replaced by David McAlary. In the same year ex-Shooters Party Chairman David Leyonhjelm joined the party as Federal Treasurer.
In January 2007 the party held its inaugural federal conference where the federal constitution was formally accepted and the federal executive elected.
